Welcome

Welcome to the new Positive Liberty.

I once commented that the ideal group blog would include Ed Brayton, Jon Rowe, and Tim Sandefur. Today I am pleased to announce that all three have agreed join Positive Liberty. Each will be posting a personal introduction shortly.

As for me, I am a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University, where I specialize in early modern French history. My academic interests include the political and economic thought of the Enlightenment, religious toleration, and gender and sexuality. My soon-to-be-defended dissertation is entitled Scandal and Disclosure in the Old Regime.

Like my new co-bloggers, I write from a classical liberal perspective. I often address issues of religion, politics, sexuality, and food and drink. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, homebrewing, hiking, yoga, and reading and translating French literature.

I have lived with my partner, Scott R. Starin, for seven years; we have been legally married for two. My dissertation defense is scheduled for early September, and I am now seeking academic or other employment, if possible in the Washington, DC area.

For my new readers, two of my favorite posts are How Not to Make Me Ex-Gay and Hayek’s Challenge: A Review by a Historian and a Fan of Economics. Light and heavy, respectively.

Oh wow, you’re kidding!!!! I know you said you were undergoing changes, but this… I’m at a loss. My three favorite writers all together on one blog? I don’t know what else can be said.

Jason, I never thought it possible that you could make improvements. Your site was my #1 must read ever day. Some how you’ve managed to blind-side me and make me even more excited.

Thank you doesn’t seem like quite enough, but it’s all I’ve got at the moment.

    Small correction- FOUR favorite writers.

Congrats on the new look and the new company!

Wow, Jason, impressive! The four horsemen of the Libertarian apocalypse at one convenient URL. I’ll echo what Chris said.

I leave town, come back, check the web and everything changes!

I have to tell you, I’m apprehensive. This not-so-classic liberal doesn’t know if he can handle FOUR libertarians in my daily read :D

I really am looking forward to reading Positive Liberty even more now (didn’t think that was possible). Though I might have some disagreements, this has always been a site that has made me think a bit more clearly and deeply about issues (as opposed to just getting exasperated).

I haven’t read the other three very much as yet (I know, bad bad liberal), but from the what I’ve seen so far, I’m looking foward to more.

    Great changes.

    – homebrewing –

I know you have talked about your wine, but I wonder if you brew beer. I’ve never microbrewed myself but absolutely love the American microbrew type beers like Sam Adams, Pete’s Wicked, and Dock Street.

If you could make me some of that when I’m sure we meet in person some day in the future, that would be cool….

I brew a lot more beer than wine, actually. And stay tuned, for tomorrow I plan to post a “special” brewing recipe that I just got from a loyal reader….
