The historical record is clear: George Washington was intimately connected with the Freemasons. He even prayed to the Mason’s “Great Architect of the Universe.” From his December 27, 1792 letter to Massachusetts Masons Grand Lodge, “I sincerely pray that the Great Architect of the Universe may bless you and receive you hereafter into his immortal Temple.”
Interestingly these anti-Masonic, Illuminati fearing religious lunatics existed back then as they do today (and probably held more social and legal power then as well). And they pestered George Washington about his involvement with the Freemasons, leading him to lie about it.
When George Washington received a conspiratorial letter from one George Washington Snyder warning him about the Freemasons and their connection with the Illuminati, instead of replying, [Clarence Beeks voice] “F*ck Off, Crackpot!” [/Clarence Beeks voice] Washington, ever conciliatory even to the point of lying, wrote:
I have heard much of the nefarious, and dangerous plan, and doctrines of the Illuminati, but never saw the Book until you were pleased to send it to me.9 The same causes which have prevented my acknowledging the receipt of your letter have prevented my reading the Book, hitherto; namely, the multiplicity of matters which pressed upon me before, and the debilitated state in which I was left after, a severe fever had been removed. And which allows me to add little more now, than thanks for your kind wishes and favourable sentiments, except to correct an error you have run into, of my Presiding over the English lodges in this Country. The fact is, I preside over none, nor have I been in one more than once or twice, within the last thirty years. I believe notwithstanding, that none of the Lodges in this Country are contaminated with the principles ascribed to the Society of the Illuminati. With respect I am &c.
But we know that Washington was far more involved with the Masons than “once or twice, within the last thirty years.” Washington was a Master Mason who, when he died, was buried with full-Masonic rites.

Um, actually, my father was a Master Mason, was buried with a full Masonic funeral, and hadn’t been inside a lodge more than twice in 30 years, both times being when I was passing a degree myself.
It is worth remembering that the Freemasons were and are a secret society.
Oh, and the GAOTU isn’t a different God from the other ones. Freemasonry believes in the existence of one and exactly one god; by definition it has to be the same one for everyone, no matter how It is named.
But really, you’re just chain-pulling here, right?
My post is half chain-pulling by its very tone. But I did think that Washington likely lied with the once or twice within the last thirty years remark.

As far as the GAOTU being the same God, I don’t have a problem with that. It’s just that many fundamentalist who are trying to claim Washington as one of them think the Mason’s GAOTU is a false God.
The Masons leave definition of who the GAOTU is to their members. Part of the requirements for becoming a Mason is being a member of a religion that believes in one and only one God. Masonry *itself* isn’t a religion.
A great many paranoid conspiracy theorists (PCTs) and average Joes and Joettes are conscious of the esoteric order named the Illuminati. The Illuminati is commonly believed to have its roots in the European Enlightenment and it’s believed the order was founded in May 1776 by Adam Weishaupt a Jesuit instructed Professor of canon law. Today there’s a growing belief that the Illuminate is not simply a benign group of intellectuals and wealthy adherents seeking camaraderie in kind but is in fact a malignant entity dedicated to the creation of a one world order in which the masses are enslaved and controlled by “the few”.
David Icke is perhaps the most well-known and vociferous campaigner against the Illuminati and he reputedly believes the Illuminati controls humanity via machinations, subterfuge, secrecy, and conspiracy. Indeed, David Icke cites the Holocaust, Oklahoma City bombing, the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, the war in Bosnia, and the September 11, 2001 attacks as examples of events orchestrated by the Illuminati; Icke believes these orchestrated catastrophes are designed to coerce, control and led the masses into submissive subjugation — to a world in which the Illuminati have complete, unequivocal and unanswerable control over the ignorant masses.
Recently it was proposed that Fashion has its own form of the Illuminati. This elite order of “fashion” Illuminati apparently coerce, control and led the masses into submissive style — dictating what is fashionable and thereby excluding free and true style which they consider a threat to their positions of power. Most historic Fashion Houses have been identified as members of this esoteric order and a number of media channels have been accused of being complicit in the conspiracy to control the fashion buying masses. It has been suggested that if we look around us today we will see clear evidence to support this conspiracy theory as the verve of youth and innovation is suppressed in favor of drab, lifeless mediocrity.
On the other hand, perhaps we should not look to blame secret orders for the serious, and not so serious, issues of our time. Perhaps we, you and I, the masses, need to step forward and through our own spirit, determination and desire for change claim a new future built on egalitarianism, inclusive respect and opportunity for all.

In regards to the prayer, invoking the Great Architect of the Universe, take it in context. The prayer was in a letter written to a lodge of Freemasons. In the lodge all Masons are equal, no religion is advocated nor political power. the Great Architect of the Universe is God and the symbol thereof being the three great lights of Fremasonry, The Holy Bible, Square and Compass’. If you need more “Light” on the matter ask a Mason. That’s not a secret.
Thanks. Yes, I’ve seen Bessel’s work before. I think my post was consistent with what Bessel puts forth. I’m simply pointing out that Washington was intimately connected with the Freemasons. And in his letter to GW Snyder, he seems to try to stave off the concern about his involvement by intimating that he wasn’t really involved with them. And that’s just not true. Even Washington could be duplicitous as most politicians at times are.

Rowe: I believe that GW was stating that he was only in English Lodges once or twice in 30 years. There was a difference between English Lodges and those constituted under an American Grand Lodge then. One could see how an English Lodge attendance could be construed in that era of American History …

I stumbled on this post while doing research for a paper thus forgive my incredibly late posting. No huge fan of Freemasonry am I, being a proud Roman Catholic, but the Illuminati is NOT Freemasonry. There are some similarities in ideology, but it is not the same organization pure and simple. To add a little historical tidbit: though Washington was never suspected of being part of the Illuminati (the secrecy of freemasonry does not extend to people knowing you are in it) Thomas Jefferson WAS suspected of being part of the Illuminati. This letter is part of an Illuminati scare in New England.
The Illuminati was just the Jesuit Order under a new name and guise.
The Jesuits were ordered Suppressed by the Pope in 1773.
It was no longer cool or safe to be a Jesuit at that point and Adam Weishaupt started a new operation that would give the Jesuits the cover they needed.
Knigge, the number 2 Illuminati member said as much when he left the Illuminati. That Weishaupts anti-Jesuit rhetoric was just a ruse so that no one would suspect that he filled many of the top ranking positions with ex-Jesuit priests.
The Illuminati was used to infiltrate and influence Masonry and they steered the French Revolution, took 2 Popes prisoner for a combined 12 years total and when it was over the Jesuits were re-instated by the Pope.
The reason Weishaupt selected the name Illuminati in the first place is because the Jesuit Order was the same story,,, it had been created by the Alumbrados, and Loyola and Borgia were members. And Alumbrados means Illumned Ones.
Loyola had been brought up on charges of heresy and sympathy to the Alumbrados in Salamanca and was freed by Borgia under the condition he go to a credited Catholic University if he were to preach to the public.
And it was all to return Spanish power back within the Vatican, as there was to never be another Spanish Pope after Roderigo Borgia aka Pope Alexander VI. So the Alumbrados created the necessity for the Order, even going so far as aiding the Reformation to increase the need for this new Vatican Military Order, and they came up with a combination of the Franciscans and the Templars.
Washington was Mason and felt they were not being infiltrated, even though all the evidence shows it, but he died before it became more obvious. Jefferson however was himself a member and was tricked by Weishaupts pretended New Age philosophy and defended Weishaupt as being nothing more than a harmless philanthropist.
Call it all a conspiracy theorists overactive imagination if you wish, but it makes the most sense when looking at all the pieces of the puzzle.
