Does Masturbation Cause Anxiety?

Jason Kuznicki on Apr 28th 2007

It’s yet another question that brought a Googler to Positive Liberty. He ended up here, at a June 2006 post by Rowe disussing the mental health profession and homosexuality. Hopefully it’s reassuring to our newfound reader, since the post shows how mental health providers formerly, but erroneously, believed that masturbation causes insanity. They’ve since changed their minds.

So much for mental illness, but does masturbation cause simple anxiety? I’m guessing that at least for the questioner, the answer is yes. Why else would he be searching? Perhaps he’s only considering masturbation, and he’s wondering if doing it will make him more anxious than he already is.

Now for something that might really cause anxiety: The software logs your IP address, so I know where you live, you pervert.

LOL. I would think from experience he would understand that one of the key benefits to masturbation is that it produces the opposite effect.

Unless, of course, he suffers from a major guilt trip about it.

    That’s fantastic.

I’m still waiting for PL to turn up some truly horrific search queries like, “Does necrophilia count as dating?” or “Does liking Momma’s Family mean there is something wrong with me?”

Onanism is a serious medical and psychiatric disorder, an excess of self-love, narcissism, and hedonism (or so it was once claimed, you guys). Not only that: Onanism is “impure.” It “spills human seed” somewhere where God did not intend it, “staining” human nature. Some have claimed it is a proto-aborficiant, and therefore is Anti-Life. It violates the Natural Law, as the “Final End” does not “end” in pregnancy. It is also claimed to be intrinsically antisocial, leading to mass murders for the pent-up inversion by a form of agoraphobia and seclusion. All this can be terribly anxiety producing. Of course, the “release” from self-orgasm can be intensely pleasurable, but that can cause psychosexual arrested development, inversion of the “homosexual” kind, and grow hair on one’s palms. But help is still available! An onanistic “lifestyle” and the “Onanistic Agenda” can be cured and eradicated, if one accepts Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. As Saint Paul warned, “those walk according to the flesh are hostile to God, and given over to death,” but those who, “walk according to the Spirit have eternal life,” and are rescued from their impurities, sins, and washed in the blood of the lamb (a little messy, perhaps, but without stain). Contact your nearest Evangelical pastor, and salvation (including glossaglia) can be yours. Avoid the Anxiety! Masturbation Equals Death! Onanism Anonymous is here to help!

On the other hand (no pun intended), Plato reports that Diogenes, the Cynic, was found masturbating in Athen’s public square. True, the Greeks were not shy about sex, but it was uncommon to masturbate in the Public Square (imagine what John Neuhaus would have to say). So, the crowd asked Diogenes, “Why are you jacking-off in Athen’s public square?” A perfectly reasonable question for Athenians to ask, I think. “To relieve world hunger,” replied Diogenes. And thus, cynicism was born. World hunger may persist, but not for a lack of men trying their best to eradicate it.

Not really, masturbation makes the nervous system sensitive…causes shyness, and makes the heart beat faster…and i’m no way bull******** to scare anyone out there, but masturbation is a habbit jus tlike alcohol….you can avoid it….

    Hansol –

Increased heart rate is obvious enough, sure. It’s also not a medical problem. As to the other supposed problems, do you have any evidence at all? Sure, you can avoid masturbation. But if it’s harmless, then why bother avoiding it?

I have noticed same thing. If i masturbate daily (or many times on a day), i feel anxious, depressed, very introverted, no energy, zits, my knee hurts and whats annying i have started to loose hair from my head. After about 2-3 days without masturbation my energy begins slowly come back.

If i am 1 week without masturbation im like new man. But there is a limit. If im more than 2 weeks without masturbating i begin feel less energetic. I heard that it is because “testosterony negative feedback”.

Some people said that men should ejaculate one time on a week at least but no more than 2. Personally i feel that 1 time on a week is optimal for me but it feels like hell….. cause ive been masturbating like 3-5 times on day since teenager cause doctors (and so on) have said that its safe….. but i know now that it really is NOT.

People should not spread this lie that it is safe. Daily (or many times on day) masturbation leads to mental and physical problems. Ive noticed it and there is many more people who have noticed same thing.

Ps. im not religious or in any religion, so thats not the reason im saying that masturbation is not safe. I just want warn other people what ive reliazed and experienced.

    But it feels so good….

Absolutely agree with “Masturbation is disease” user. Very anxiety forming business, drains me of energy and makes me lazy to do tasks that need to be done. Much better to avoid this shit and find something else to do when the urge arises. For example go to the bar and pick up a chick. It’s like a drug, after any drug high, you will always get withdrawals that make you feel uncomfortable while your body is working to replenish used up resources that keep you feeling good. Masturbation is a cheap high!
