So Weird and Hateful that they Fascinate

The following is part three of a seven part documentary from the BBC on the Westboro Baptist Church. This one in particular features a man who began as a documentary reporter and joined the cult. They are so weird, extreme, and hateful that they entertain.

Wait a second… you might want to rephrase that last bit about Theroux “joining the cult”. He stayed with them during the filming, but he never picketed or actually linked up with them in that sense.
No, you misread what he was saying. He wasn’t referring to Louis Theroux, but the cult member Steve, who was formerly a documentary filmmaker who instead joined the cult as their media guy. That’s made pretty clear in the video.
Fascinating cult, yes- but the interview style makes this nearly impossible to watch. Isn’t the point of an interview to HEAR the interviewee’s response to a question?
Instead we hear the interviewer interrupting. A lot.
I’m sorry. I might not have been clear enough. The person whom Theroux focuses on this part was like him, a former documentary reporter. And HE later joined the cult. The guy “Steve.” That’s the party to whom I referred.
Why would you want to hear what the interviewee has got to say? It is so filthy and nauseating that it need a lot of interrupting.
What a pathetic, obnoxious group. The average person would be shocked and repulsed by their incomprehensible displays. Only a confused individual could join them. Unfortunately, Theroux the reporter does a miserable job. Aghast as he may seem, surely he was prepared for what he would encounter, or at least should have been. He’s almost like a deer caught in the headlights. A limp-wristed effort on his part.
Wow. Just wow.
I don’t think you have quite caught on.
They want to be hated and to be despicable. That’s their MO: as long as they’re hated, their filthy worldview will not be challenged. They thrive on hate, rejection, destruction, and not least of all death. In order to achieve their goals they will use any means necessary and many unnecessary.
That is not to say we should all ignore them or something like that. But it’s important to understand their goals and desires if we’re going to do anything about them.
Unless, you know, the plan is to tie them to posts and execute the lot of them.
I would like to join this church.
Gays are trying to take over this country.
hey moron, louie theroux didn’t join the sect. do some research shit head.
